Diabetes control is important throughout life, and one of the main steps in the process is maintaining blood glucose values at optimal levels for patient’s condition. Modern technology is helping to make the management of diabetes as individualized as possible, and aiding people in their efforts to monitor and manipulate their glucose levels in ways that were not possible only a few years ago. The CGM and new indicators of GMI are innovations in this area which make it possible to monitor and analyze glucose data step by step.

What is Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)?

CGM is a system that allows real time monitoring of glucose levels through use of sensor that is inserted under the skin. It is a wearable sensor that constantly measures glucose level in the interstitial fluid and sends the data to a receiver or an app on the smart phone to enable people to view changes during the daytime and at night. This is unlike the static blood glucose monitoring techniques because the CGM offers a continuously dynamic picture of glucose variation, not merely random individual value.
