Recently, a comment made by Joy Behar on “The View” regarding shooting deer with an AR-15 sparked a heated debate. This incident highlighted the importance of understanding gun safety and the role of expert opinions in shaping public discourse.

During a recent broadcast, Joy Behar made a comment suggesting that shooting a deer with an AR-15 would render the animal inedible due to the damage caused. While her statement may have been open to interpretation, it raised eyebrows and attracted criticism. The comment stirred up a conversation about the capabilities of firearms, specifically the AR-15, and the broader issue of gun safety.

Contrary to Behar’s comment, some experts believe shooting a deer with an AR-15 does not obliterate the animal beyond consumption. Hunters have been using various firearms, including the AR-15, for hunting purposes for years without causing excessive damage. The effectiveness of different ammunition types and proper shot placement are crucial factors that determine the outcome of a shot.

“First of all the AR-15 is only 22 cal which is generally considered too small for deer. So you would use an AR-10 30 cal instead. There is no functional difference between an AR style rifle and a more typical looking semi auto hunting rifle. The difference is only cosmetic. People that ask this question have generally never fired a gun before. So, pick up an 8 pound rod and while standing, point it at a deer sized object 100 yards away. You will find that it is harder to hold your aim that it sounds. The semi auto is for a follow up shot in case the target moves or your shot is off. A good hunter wants a clean quick kill so the animal doesn’t suffer. ARs are also very adjustable and light. You can easily adjust the buttstock length, grips and sights to suit your build and preferences. That is why many people hunt with AR style rifles. They are practical.”

In addressing the complexities of gun safety, it is essential to consult expert opinions. Professionals in firearms, hunting, and gun safety provide valuable insights into the nuances of using firearms responsibly. They emphasize the importance of proper training, understanding ballistics, and following established safety protocols. Expert opinions provide a balanced perspective on the capabilities and limitations of different firearms, including the AR-15.

Gun safety education and training play a vital role in reducing accidents and promoting responsible firearm use. By emphasizing the importance of safe handling, storage, and adherence to hunting regulations, individuals can ensure their activities align with ethical and legal standards. Organizations and initiatives dedicated to firearms safety offer resources, courses, and guidelines to educate enthusiasts and hunters alike.

The controversial comment made by Joy Behar on “The View” ignited a broader conversation surrounding gun safety, expert opinions, and responsible firearm use. By debunking misconceptions, examining real-life incidents, and considering expert insights, we can promote a more informed and nuanced discussion on gun safety.
