Former FCI Dublin Employees Plead Guilty to Inmate Sexual Abuse
Shocking Revelations Shake Pleasanton Community
“The office’s ongoing investigation into FCI Dublin has found serious misconduct by several correctional officers at the facility,” said Ismail Ramsey, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California. “
The Department of Justice has repeatedly Warned that criminal misconduct in the care and safety of detainees will not be tolerated.
Former prison catering chef Andrew Jones has pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual abuse against three women in his custody, giving false information to the government and telling federal agents to deny such abuse. Warden Nakie Nunley, who worked at the prison’s call center, pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual abuse and five counts of minor abusive sexual contact against five women, as well as one count of false testimony.
According to the Justice Department, Jones, 35, supervised prisoners at the Food Services Department. Jones admitted in his plea agreement that between July 2020 and June 2021, he had sexual relationships with three prisoners working under his supervision in the kitchen. Jones admitted that he sexually abused the prisoners in multiple places near the kitchen, including a staff bathroom, warehouse, and room where kitchen utensils were stored.
Former guard Enrique Chavez pleaded guilty last October to having sexual contact with an inmate in 2020 and was sentenced to 20 months in prison, and former guard Ross Klinger, who claimed guilty to three counts of sexual abuse, is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 13, according to federal prosecutors.
The Broader Issue of Sexual Abuse in Correctional Facilities and the Need for Stricter Measures to Prevent Such Incidents
The Federal Correctional Institution, with about 650 inmates, has been wracked by disclosures of sexual abuse that went on for years. The Associated Press reported in February 2022 that workers and inmates referred to Dublin as “the rape club.”
“Incarcerated individuals should be able to serve their sentences without fear of being sexually assaulted by correctional institution staff,” FBI San Francisco Special Agent In Charge Robert Tripp said in a statement. “Nakie Nunley and Andrew Jones abused their positions and will be held accountable.”.
